Boxes for Refugee Apartments

Kentucky Refugee Ministries is extremely grateful for your interest in our programs.

As you sort, downsize, organize, etc., please remember that there is currently a great need for basic furniture such as kitchen tables and chairs, dressers, sofas, living room chairs, small tables, single and double mattress sets, bed frames, and lamps in good repair. Some of you have asked how you can donate furniture and household goods. Simply call 479-9180 ext. 14 to set a date and time for your donation to be picked up. Smaller items such as lamps, irons, linens, and kitchenware can be brought to our office at 969 B Cherokee Road 40204 between the hours of 9:00-4:00 Monday- Friday.

Many of you who have helped us in the past by donating clothing may not be aware that we are no longer able to accept any clothing donations with the exception of children's basic school uniform attire (khaki or navy slacks, white or blue shirts, etc.) and in the winter only coats, hats, and gloves for all ages. Neither do we have need of curtains/draperies or large appliances such as washer/dryers and air conditioners. Please consider taking the items that we are unable to accept to any of the seven Goodwill Industries located in the Louisville area and mention Kentucky Refugee Ministries and the Agency Assistance Program.

We are participants in the Goodwill Industries Agency Assistance program. If when making a donation you ask that Kentucky Refugee Ministries be credited under the Agency Assistance Program we will receive credit toward the purchase of any needed item that we do not have in our warehouse. We ask that you send us the receipt that you will be given in order for us to document your donation. You should also ask Goodwill to give you a tax donation receipt acknowledging your donation to them.

Most refugees arrive with very little personal possessions. Some are fortunate in that they have relatives or church sponsors who are able to help them in those first three or four months acquire basic necessities such as furniture and clothing. Others who do not have sponsors or families are totally dependent upon Kentucky Refugee Ministries to provide their basic needs. Your donations make it possible for us to do that and are greatly appreciated. Thank you again for your ongoing assistance and your willingness to "welcome the stranger."
